If you are looking for a solution to whiten your discolored teeth, professional teeth whitening is the suitable procedure for you. A professional in-office teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures practiced throughout the world. Unlike home teeth-whitening, this procedure takes place at the dental clinic, performed and monitored by our dentists. The procedure provides lasting results and brightening teeth.
The Preparation
When you visit our clinic, our dentist will give you a prophylactic cleaning that clears away plaque and debris accumulated between and on the surface of the teeth. After this, they will perform a dental exam to check all the potential problems in your mouth like cracks, severe tooth decay, and gum diseases. They will also take photos of your teeth.
The Procedure
The details of the procedure may vary from patient to patient; however, our dentist follows a fairly standard routine throughout the procedure. Professional teeth cleaning is a non-invasive and non-painful procedure.
Our dentist will start by inserting a cheek retractor into your mouth to expose all the visible teeth when you smile. After this, they will put a hardening resin or liquid rubber dam on your gum to protect them against inflammation caused by the bleaching/whitening agent. They will now apply a bleaching agent containing hydrogen peroxide and allow it to stay on your teeth for 15-30 minutes. It is then washed off or suctioned. After this, a fresh gel is applied for another 15-30 minutes, depending upon the severity of the stains on your teeth.
Some professional teeth whitening procedures also use an intense light focused on your teeth to enhance the process of bleaching. Our dentist will check the progress between the gel applications to check whether your teeth need more bleaching agents or not. Once the final gel application is over, they will remove the cheek retractors. You will now be asked to rinse your mouth, after which we will check the post-procedure shade change. The new color of your teeth will emerge after a few days.
The After-Care
The after-care of professional teeth whitening is the same as the other procedures. You will be advised to maintain proper dental hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day. Our dentist will also suggest you abstain from excessive consumption of tea, coffee, and alcohol. Besides this, you will also be asked to see our dentist at least twice a year for a professional dental cleaning to maintain your pearly white teeth. Â
